IRC Rules

By connecting to InfinityIRC, you agree to these Terms of Service. You must also agree to comply with any additional rules noted on the MOTD of the server (The MOTD can be accessed by typing /motd at any time) to which you are connected, and by default it should display this on connect.

  1. For clarification purposes, the following terms have been defined:
Oper: Short for “Network Operator” or “IRC Operator”. Such a title governs the operations of the entire network or a specific server accordingly.
  2. Dynamic IP: IPs that change for a user. Most home internet service providers use dynamic IPs.
  3. Static IP: IPs that do not change for a user. This type of IP is more beneficial to business owners, as they may run servers as per their business needs.
  4. CTCP: Abbreviated form of “Client to client protocol”. This function allows users to send and retrieve information as per the client’s specifications, such as ping time, client version, or user’s time.
  5. PM: Abbreviation for Private Message. A one-on-one conversation, users are permitted to PM each other provided they have expressed permission.
  6. The Network: Used in this document to reference Infinity IRC network.

I. General User Conduct

  1. Don’t abuse Infinity IRC resources, I.E. do not flood; have more than 3 clones, mass-message or mass-invite. If a user is found doing this, it could lead to a 7 day ban.
  2. Harassing another user via the IRC medium is discouraged at Infinity-IRC. If they’re minor issues between 1 or 2 people the Infinity-IRC operators cannot justify the time spent in sorting the issue out. It is recommended users ignore each other if such clashes occur. If however the user harasses someone via bots or other automated systems, especially on mass, then the offending individual will receive harsh punishment.
  3. Previously we disallowed PMs that were sent without asking the receiver whether they wanted it or not, likewise for Notices, CTCP requests and DCC transfers. If a user is attempting to flood via PMs, CTCP requests or DCC transfer requests it is recommended that a user simply ignore the offender. If multiple users complain we may see fit in removing the offender from the network. If it is happening on mass from multiple nicknames it is recommended you contact an IRC operator immediately.

II. General Rules/Disclaimers

  1. Infinity IRC is not responsible for its users behaviour; however, if a user breeches the Terms of Service, a ban could be implemented on to their user, IP, ISP, State/Province or even Country depending on the severity of the situation. We cannot be held liable for any loss of income or damage to health, property or safety as a result of IP blacklisting.
  2. Every server’s admin team is able to deny access to or use of its server’s resources to any user(s), group(s), site(s), or domain, without the benefit of prior warning or notification if they choose to
  3. We heavily discourage sex offenders joining our network, if you are a sex offender either disconnect from the network or just don’t tell anybody, likewise if you believe someone may be a sex offender, don’t ask. If someone commits a sexual act via Infinity-IRC they will receive severe punishment.
  4. Advertising on Infinity-IRC is mostly discouraged but we allow some form of advertising. 1. Advertising of goods is fine, we don’t mind if you discreetly advertise goods from companies like AMD or some brand of shoes etc. 2. Advertising of other IRC networks is discouraged and disallowed in certain ways. Your channel topic may not include another IRC network’s address in it; you can mention other networks in non-InfinityIRC network channels. 3. Advertising of your website is fine as long as it’s discreet (e.g. instead of saying “GO TO MY WEBSITE RIGHT NOW, DO SO IN THE NEXT FIVE MINUTES OR DIE!!!!” But rather say “Hey I just started a new website, it’s pretty cool, I’d like it if you could join in http://www.randomstupidwebsite.com”) 4. If an owner of a channel has explicitly stated he does not want advertisements of other websites/products/servers etc. then don’t do it. They are free to punish you as necessary and IRC operators are under no obligation to negotiate channel unbans. 5. Mass messaging in channels of other websites or IRC networks is dealt with as necessary by the owners of a channel. If operator intervention is necessary then just PM an available operator. If mass advertising or spamming occurs within a network run channel then it could result in G: Lines being placed against the offenders.
  5. Usage of network services to abuse other members on the network is strictly prohibited. If you feel that you are being abused by a member of the network, please join #support and ask to talk to an Oper.

III. Channel Conduct

  1. You are free to ban an operator from your channel at your own discretion. However in the event something happens within your channel that requires operator intervention (e.g. botnet) then the operator is free to join the channel, fix the issue, and then part afterwards.
    1. Do not discuss illegal activity; attempt to send illegal files or illegal site links such as links to illegal music, child porn, etc. This could lead to instant blacklisting and a permanent ban from our network. You may also be reported to other agencies such as the police, or your ISP.

IV. Bot Policy
Users are not required to participate in the forums to have a bot on the network, or register it on a reference list.

  1. Bots may not join a channel without the channel owner’s expressed permission. If you have a request channel set up, please be sure to log such requests for your records.
  2. Relay bots are allowed at Infinity-IRC as long as they do not excessively advertise the other network it is connected to (e.g. don’t append messages to the relayed messages from the other network saying “CONNECTED TO SUPER DUPER FAST TOTALLY AWESOME NETWORK, JOIN NOW!” or have a nickname saying “Relay_bot_connected_to_randomnetwork”)
  3.  Clone bots, Trojan bots, spam bots, etc. are not permitted on this network.

V. vHost Policy
You can find the vHost Rules & Policy Here.
Failure to obey these terms or other directions by network staff will result in network disciplinary action up to and/or including a network ban (G:line).

This Terms of Service document may be changed at any time, by a member of staff at Infinity IRC without giving any notice to its user base. We will cooperate with any/every law enforcement agency provided they have a court-issued subpoena. We reserve the right to contact any user’s ISP for repeated ban evasions and/or general abuse.
