We owe a thanks to MrZodiac (Travis) at http://travishafer.com for this.

If you have any questions, please ask us in #support. Thanks :)

August 27th, 2010 admin No comments

The Infinity-IRCd Project has been discontinued at version 1. Version 1.5 which was in development has been halted.

Infinity-IRC plan to switch to InspIRCd 1.2.7 sometime soon, due to the Unreal Trojan found a month ago.

If you would like to test out InspIRCd, you can use our test using port 8095 on Acer.infinityirc.com, Netgear.infinityirc.com, Twilight.infinityirc.com and Fujitsu.infinityirc.com.

Please let us know your thoughts on InspIRCd in #support.

Thank you.

How do I get a free IRC BNC?

July 31st, 2010 admin No comments

GeekBouncer provide free IRC bouncers for any network, especially Infinity-IRC. You can simply join #GeekBouncer and type !request for details.

The syntax is !request [Username] [IRC Server] [Port] [Email]

So, I would type !request iYorkie irc.infinityirc.com +6697 iYorkie@infinityirc.com

If one person gets banned, wouldn’t I be banned too?

Normally, yes. GeekBouncer run a custom version of ZNC which has CGI:IRC support enabled. Meaning hostnames are changed to username.server.geekbouncer.co.uk (etc. iYorkie.Core.GeekBouncer.co.uk) so only the user banned will be affected.

What exactly is a bouncer?

It’s a proxy designed for IRC. The BNC connects to IRC, and the user connects to the BNC. When the user quits, the BNC stays connected to IRC. When the user reconnects, everything said while the user was offline will be relayed.

User -> BNC -> IRC

What are the advantages of a BNC?

  • It keeps you connected to IRC.
  • If your connection dies, you’ll still be connected to IRC.
  • Multiple clients can connect to the same BNC.
  • It can keep data encrypted.

Awesome changes are afoot!

July 28th, 2010 admin No comments

In the late hours of last night, it was decided that GeeksIRC,  a currently small network that has had over 1000 users in the past, but lost them due to unshared circumstances, will be merging into Infinity-IRC.

Why?

We care about our community, we care about the quality of our community, not the amount of users but, by merging two communities together, discussions will build, and get bigger.

How will this be happening?

It will all be done by the senior staff of GeeksIRC & Infinity-IRC. You wont have to do anything. The name “Infinity-IRC” will be kept. Services Databases will be merged, and GeeksIRC’s DNS will be pointed to Infinity. We’ll also gain one new staff memeber, Ryan Courtade, Owner/Founder of GeeksIRC.

When?

This will be happening at around 10:00 BST (British Summer Time) today.

Questions?

You may ask any questions about this in #support.

Many Thanks,

GeeksIRC & Infinity-IRC Senior Staff

Infinity-IRCd Pros and Cons

July 4th, 2010 admin No comments

Infinity-IRCd 1.0 has been released. All Infinity-IRC Servers have been upgraded to the new IRCd. You can download the latest version of the IRCd at http://infinityirc.com/Infinity-IRCd-1.0.tar.gz.

Pros of the new IRCd:

  • Added /IRCOPs command. This command allows you to view a list of staff, and if they are available or not.
  • Built in Jumpserver. No need to compile Jumpserver. The command /jumpserver can be used to force users onto another server. (For IRCops only)
  • Added /sendraw command. Enables raw IRC to be used with the server. (For IRCops only)
  • Added usermode c which strips out any mIRC colour codes from privmsg/notice.
  • Added usermode m which disables CTCP Actions being shown in a channel.
  • Added usermode M which blocks DCCs sending to someone.
  • Added channelmode D which means no CTCP Actions can be sent to the channel.
  • Added chanmode B which redirects banned users to another channel

Cons of the new IRCd:

  • Unreal will not give support for an edited version of Unreal
  • More bugs can be found in these modules
  • Some of the error/info messages may not suit your needs because this IRCd was designed for Infinity. This will be changed in the future.
  • *nix only. May work on Windows in the future.

Channel Word Ban (Censor or Block)

    May 31st, 2010 admin 2 comments

I have enabled a module which allows a channel op to block a word in a channel using the extended ban mode ~T.

You can either censor (<censored>) the word or block the word/sentence coming out in the channel.

To censor the word use the following command:

    /mode #channel +b ~T:censor:wordhere – For example /mode #channel +b ~T:censor:blockthis (When a user says blockthis, it will come out <censored>.)

We also have an alias to do this. So you can also do this command by typing /censor #channel wordhere – For example /censor #channel blockthis

The second way is blocking it. This means the sentence/word cannot be seen in the channel. To do this command use:

/mode #channel +b ~T:block:wordhere – For example /mode #channel +b ~T:block:blockingthisword (This will stop any sentence containing blockingthisword being sent to the channel.)

You can also use /block #channel wordhere – For example /block #channel spamword

If you need any help with this, ask in #support. Thanks.

    Subservient Infinity!

    April 2nd, 2010 admin 3 comments

On Friday the 9th of April, Infinity’s own Henry Cole (Henco) will perform a number of crazy tasks, you ask him to do, if you donate £5. If you donated £5 to Infinity by PayPal and put in the instructions.. Dance to I gotta feeling… that is what he would do on a live stream. This is to raise money for the cost of our servers, and to celebrate the 6 months of Infinity-IRC! He can do anything, from licking peanut butter of his foot… to singing to Never gonna give you up! It must be suitable for younger viewers, though. All you need to do, is donate £5. Users that have already donated, will be able to ask him to do something in #infinity. This also includes, server donations. So server donors have something in mind! All this fun will start at 5pm BST (UK time.) Please make sure you can come to this event! We want as many viewers and donators as possible.
    Thanks,
    Infinity

Queen of UK to get oper on Infinity!

    April 1st, 2010 admin 1 comment

It is official, the queen of England will soon be a Services Root on Infinity-IRC! She will be known as the royal staffer. She will be chatting from the Buckingham palace nearly everyday!… Also, on a more serious note, we are merging with Freenode. Tonight, at 7:00pm we will attempt to merge with the large net Freenode. We are looking forward to the merger and to having royal blood on our network. You can find her on Infinity-IRC as QueenE in the network help channel. Thanks!

The Queen left when we told her about the merge, and she wont be coming back. So we stopped the merge anyway.

    Not really…

April Fools! From the Infinity-IRC team.

Infinity-IRC now has a free selection of tools to use for IRC, including a quote database, irc stats, idlerpg and a pastebin for sharing scripts. We are still working on publishing all of our services or tools onto our site, most of our services are already up and can be accessed at http://www.infinityirc.com/tools/. Coming in the future maybe online nick and channel registration for all our users and maybe badges for sites, much like our topic scripts. We have also updated our site and added a cleaner and more exciting theme. We are also pleased to welcome Elijah, Zetacon, Luke and Corky to our staffing team, who will be happy to help you with IRC. Thanks for using Infinity-IRC :)
